Heather Forton Reports

In July, the Tasar’s held their European and their World Championships back-to-back at the ARCO Sailing Club on Lake Garda. A truly iconic venue for dinghy sailors!

The EC was won by the McKees from the USA. The WC was won by newcomers to the class N Craig and T Lewis from the UK. Hugh and Anna Tait from NSW got a third in the WC.

BSC was well represented with 4 boats:

  • Mango Chilli: Josh Faddy sailed with his daughter Kai (EC-18; WC-22)
  • Firefly: Derek Hadwen sailed with Ann O’Brien. Yes she abandoned the Aeros long enough to sail the Tasar in these Championships. (EC-22; WC-24)
  • Another Roady: Pete Davies and Pia Lehtonen-Davies (EC-16; WC-16)
  • Edge of Equanimity; John Balass and Heather Forton (EC-14; WC-12)

Sailing in the Peller (morning breeze) and the Ora (afternoon breeze) with the high cliffs framing both sides of the Lake was a phenomenal experience.

All the sailors agreed it had been a fantastic opportunity, and they now understood why it is considered one of the great dinghy sailing playgrounds.
