Why sail this class?
- Fast yet stable – Designed as a fast, planing boat equipped with spinnaker and trapeze, the National E, has inherent stability, ample room and predictable handling – making it ideal, also, for older sailors or to carry a couple of kids.
- Two-person sailing – Share the skills and thrills of the trapeze and spinnaker with a regular sailing partner, friend or family member.
- Great racing at a great price – Enjoy close, competitive racing where tactics and teamwork really matter – in a boat that can be bought by people on a limited budget.
Who is it suitable for?
The National E is suitable for sailors of all ages and levels - from those developing their sailing skills through to experienced and competitive sailors. Being a two-person boat makes it particularly great for couples, friends and family members who want to sail together.
Sailing at Balmoral
There is regular Saturday afternoon racing throughout the season from September to May. The fleet is competitive on the water but friendly on land with sailors and families getting together after racing to share stories over a BBQ and a drink.
Racing opportunities outside of Balmoral
You can sail your National E at the Jack Holt Regatta, hosted by Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club, every May or put it on its road trailer and head off for a day of sailing, anywhere that takes your fancy!
The Boat: brief technical overview
The National E is a 'One-Design’, wooden or fibreglass, 4.6m long, centreboard dinghy with a mainsail, jib, single trapeze and a choice of spinnaker sizes.

You don’t need to buy a National E to try a National E!
Contact the Class Captain if you’d like to have a test sail or try crewing.
Class members are also very happy to provide advice and assist before and after purchase.
