RS Aero

The RS Aero is a modern single handed dinghy that is easy to sail for beginners and challenging for competitive sailors. In 2017 seven Aeros joined Balmoral Sailing Club. We help each to get to know the boat, club racing on Saturdays,  mid-week meet ups, usually on Tuesdays.

The key feature of the RS Aero is its lightness; with a hull weight of 30kg. The construction is epoxy glass and carbon composite. The flat panel deck and chined hull help save weight in construction and add stiffness. The boats are manufactured in the UK by leading boat builder, RS Sailing.

The sail comes in three sizes: 9, 7 and 5. The sail is made of dacron which allows its shape to be controlled by the natural stretch in the fabric. The rig is unstayed, the mast drops into the hull. The cunningham and outhaul controls are led to each side deck. The sail is part-battened with a square top which allows the top half of the sail to be de-powered in fresh winds. The mast comes in two sections for easy transport and storage. The mast and boom are light and strong carbon composite.

We sail the 5,7 and 9 rigs at Balmoral Sailing Club. Around the world the 7 rig is the most popular.

The light weight makes easier to move on its dolly and to lift into club racks.

We have an Aero  at the club, for test sails, provided by NSW Aero distributor The Life Aquatic.
